 Friday– I did my 2 mile run at the gym this morning and then hit the weight room for tricepts, bicepts and abs.  I’ve logged 12.5 miles of running in the past 5 days and feel great!

Thursday– Another 2.75 mile run in 30 minutes on the treadmill early this morning. Followed up with yoga poses. I feel really good.

Dinner was finished at 6:20pm and then I went on a 30 minute walk.

Wednesday– My daughter is better and back to school, so I was able to go to the gym! I spent 45 minutes in the gold mine (weight room) and did everything from weights to planks. It was great. I didn’t cardio at the gym because… I decided to get up early and go for another run. This time I did 2.75 miles in 30 minutes.

Dinner was finished at 6pm and then I went on a 30 minute walk.

Tuesday– Another gym at home day. I got up early and ran another 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. I hate getting up early to run, but I love it when I’m done afterwards.

Finished eating at 6pm and then I went on a 30 minute walk.

Monday– Today I got up early and ran 2.5 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill. Then I did three sets of push-ups and sit ups. I was planning on doing this at the gym today, but my daughter is running a fever. Mary, Kath and Allison, kudos to you all for getting up at the 5 am hour and getting to the gym, I struggled to get out of bed at 6:20am!

I squeezed in a 20 minute walk this afternoon.

Finished dinner and eating at 6pm. After some blogging, I went on a 50 minute walk.

Here’s a photo taken Sunday. I wasn’t able to resist the temptation of the scale this week and hopped on…still hanging on at 150 pounds. But that’s okay. When I put on my jacket this morning it was a bit loose. I could definitely feel those inches lost around my middle. So, despite the stagnant scale, I am still encouraged.

This week I will:

  • Go to the gym 4 times.
  • Stop eating by 7pm.
  • Walk after dinner.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Avoid hydrogenated fats.

In addition to my usual diet and exercise solutions, I am going add the goal of running 12 miles this week for my part in Run Swim Bike Cook.

Back into the swing of things this week. I won’t be weighing my self for another couple of weeks.

Why? Because it’s not about the number, it’s about my lifestyle. I think one of the reasons why diets didn’t work in the past was because I was so focused on the scale, and I lost sight of the big picture.

Also, according to Dr. Oz, but cutting out just 100 calories a day, you could loose up to a pound a month. That’s the equivalent of 12 pounds in a year!

So far I’ve lost 7 pounds in 10 weeks. Not much, I know. But for me, it means I’m on the right track.

Thanks to blogs like Kath Eats, I’ve been slowly changing my eating. For example, I eat oatmeal just about every morning. Also, I’m lost in my kitchen without baby spinach and Ezekiel bread. Good lifestyle changes.

And thanks to other bloggers like Couch Cubicle and More to Love, I am encouraged by the changes others are making.

Again, here my solutions for this week:

  • Get to the gym 4 times
  • No eating after 7pm (except Tuesday night for Dinner Club)
  • Avoid hydrogenated fats
  • Drink lots off water
  • Walk after evening meals

Monday– Gym Day! I did 30 minutes on the elliptical. Then into the weight room and for shoulder presses, triceps, squats, incline push-ups, decline abs and abs on the bench.

A couple of years ago I worked with a trainer for a couple of months. It was so worth the investment. She called the weight room, “the gold mine”. Today, I love it that I can walk in their confidently knowing what to do and how to do it.

Dinner and eating was finished at 6:30pm. After that I spent 35 minutes on the treadmill. First I ran one mile, then walked, ran a second mile and walked again.

Tuesday– Gym Day! I walked at an incline on the treadmill for 33 minutes. I was feeling pretty sore/stiff so I finished with some yoga stretches/poses…love downward dog!

Wednesday– Missed my Gym Day because of a rescheduled appointment. Still got in 30 minutes of a brisk walk on the treadmill at home. More later…Okay, finished dinner at 6:15pm and then went on a 30 minute walk.

Thursday– Gym Day! 33 minutes on the elliptical and then squats, abs and shoulders.

Saturday– 2.5 mile run! Then I followed with some yoga stretches.  Finished eating dinner at 6:15pm, did the dishes and then walked for 40 minutes.

Announcement!!! For the month of February I am joining run swim bike cook hosted by Chou of Balance, Julius of Occasional Baker and Lauren of Genki Tummy. I decided to do the running and some of the cooking.

We are spending the week up near Tahoe for sledding, skiing, ice skating and other snow fun. No gym this week. No walks after dinner. But our days will be very active.

I don’t have any weight or measurement updates, but I can tell you that my snow pants were baggy when I put them on today! Also, I can tell that I’ve been working out because the 6,000 feet elevation isn’t effecting me like it has in the past. No huffing and puffing up the stairs or mountain, so nice!

I’m keeping to no eating after 7pm, avoiding hydrogenated oils, and drinking lots of water.

Remember this, me pouring out my coffee mate creamer because of the hydrogenated fats:

I must say, that the vanilla splenda has turned me off of splenda and pretty much coffee altogether.  I’ve had two small/tall non-fat lattes this week, and that’s all the coffee I’ve had.

It’s been 9 weeks.

  • I’ve been walking and going to the gym.
  • I’ve stopped eating after 7pm and (try to) stop the mindless eating.
  • I’ve recently cut hydrogentated oils from my diet.
  • I’ve lost 7 lbs…
  • and 1 1/2 inches from my waist.

…and yes, my feet are freezing!

Monday– Gym Day! I did 35 minute on the elliptical (all the way up and with the resistance at 5). Then I did push-ups, abs and walking lunges. I felt great leaving the gym!

Finished dinner and eating at 6pm and then I went on a 20 minute walk.

Tuesday– Gym Day! 35 minutes run/walk on the treadmill then a great set of abs.

Finished dinner and eating at 6:30pm and then I walked for 36 minutes. I must say, I feel great tonight!

Wednesday– Gym Day got cut short…23 minutes on the elliptical.

Dinner was finished at 5:40pm and then I went on a 25 minute walk.

Thursday– Gym Day! I did 15 minutes on the elliptical and then 18 minutes on the treadmill. Then I picked up a ball and did abs, squats and shoulders.

We finished dinner at 5:30pm. After the dishes and baths, I walked for 30 minutes.

I’m substitute teaching tomorrow, so no gym. Still, I will be up, on my feet and moving for a lot of the day. Also, I’ll walk tomorrow night after dinner.

I’m pleased that I got in four gym days this week, my goal.

I am in need of a little inspiration. Still, I’m staying on course.

Keeping to the simple things that I can continue to do during my lifetime.

  • No eating after 7pm
  • Gym 3 days this week plus two treadmill days
  • Walk after dinner most nights
  • No mindless eating while reading the newspaper
  • Drink water
  • Avoid foods with hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated oils

I found hydrogenated oils in our Skippy Peanut Butter, butter spread, and Coffee Mate coffee creamer. I can find another peanut butter and butter spread…but my coffee mate? I’ve lost any and all joy from a nice hot cup of coffee. The non-fat milk and splenda packet aren’t cutting it. I love a tall non-fat one splenda latte from Starbucks, but I really don’t need to be in there every day. There must be something I can do…

Monday– Treadmill for 30 minutes of brisk walking. Dinner was finished at 6:20pm.

Tuesday– Gym Day #1. Elliptical for 35 minutes then leg squats, lunges and abs. Tammy, thanks for the coffee tip. I got these little vanilla splenda packets, not bad for 0 calories.


Finished up dinner and eating at 6:20pm and then went on a 30 minute walk.

Wednesday– Gym Day #2 I did the Treadmill for 35 minutes. Started with a 15 minute run, then 3 minute walk, 8 minute run, 3 minute walk, 5 minute run, cool down.

Tonight I finished dinner and eating at 6pm and walked for 30 minutes.

Thursday– Gym Day #3 StairMaster StairMill for 15 minutes then 20 minutes on the elliptical. Not much time for weight training this week, maybe some strength training while watching Greys Anatomy tonight.

Finished eating dinner at 7pm, late for us! Then I went on a 40 minute walk. I decided not to strength train tonight because I worked in the yard for almost 2 hours this afternoon.

Friday-Finished dinner and eating at 6pm.  Then I went on a 35 minute walk.

Today I had a revelation while I was mindlessly eating, “I wouldn’t be eating this if I were blogging everything I ate”.  Of course, I finished eating, this time mindfully.

I’ve been away but am home now and ready to get back into the swing of things. My waist size is measuring 31 1/4 inches. Happy to say I made it though the holidays slightly smaller than I started. Back on November 9th I measured my waist at 32 3/4 inches.

Here’s what I’ve been doing and will keep doing:

  • Go to the gym 4 days this week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
  • No eating after 7pm
  • Go for a walk after dinner
  • Drink water
  • No mindless eating while reading the newspaper

With all of my yo-yo dieting, I am very hesitant to make drastic changes to my eating habits during the day. This is all about making small changes over time that I can live with for the rest of my life.

I’ve been eating Kath’s Oatmeal Pancake most mornings and top it with either blueberries or a mashed banana. The big commitment decision this week, avoiding foods with hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated oils. I am picking this item first only because it’s the first item listed on Dr. Oz and Dr. Roisen’s list of Five Ingredients to Avoid.

Monday– Gym Day #1. Elliptical for 35 minutes. Then leg press, lunges, abs and incline push-ups. Dinner was finished at 5:50pm and then I went on a 29 minute walk.

Tuesday– Gym Day #2. Treadmill for 35 minutes. I did a combination of walking and running. Dinner was finished at 6:15pm and then I went on a 30 minute walk.

I love what Couch Cubicle said, “even healthy stuff… is bad for you if you eat it all day long”. So true! Thanks for the reminder!

Wednesday– Gym Day #3. Elliptical for 35 minutes. Then arms and abs. Dinner was finished at 6:15pm and then I went on a 25 minute walk. I had my piece of cake around 4pm, and I’m done for the night.

Thursday– Gym Day #4. Truthfully, gym day at home, but I got in a 40 minute run/walk on our treadmill.  It took me a while to find my pace, but finally at 25 minutes I started in on my last run and just kept going.  It felt great.  We finished dinner at 6pm and then I went on a 25 minute walk.

Cake update:  Yes, that cake is still in the home.  I’ve had two slices, one yesterday and one today.  And I’m done now.  I don’t need any more.  And I don’t really want any more either.

Friday I’ll be substitute teaching, so I’ll be on my feet most of the day.  My plan is to walk around the classroom…I should get a pedometer.

Week 6~ So, my diet and exercise goals for last week were met. I got to the gym four times. Some nights I walked after dinner. I didn’t eat after 7pm (Except for Saturday night. My friends threw a super fun Christmas Cocktail Party. It didn’t start until 7pm. Yes, I ate ate ate. And had fun fun fun)

This week, I am going to keep to my goals:

  • Gym days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
  • No eating after 7pm
  • Walk after dinner
  • Drink water

I’m not expecting to see a change in my waist size. But I figure if I can make it through the holidays with out gaining, well, then that will be good. And better than last year.

I’ve been trying to take the Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen approach to my eating. They say that by just cutting 100 calories a day you can loose a pound a month. I would love to be 12 pounds lighter this time next year, and I know my eating cut-off time is helping with that.

Monday– Gym Day! I got in 35 minutes on the elliptical and then did sets of abs, arms and shoulders. Dinner was finished at 6pm and then I went on a 30 minute walk.

Tuesday– Gym Day. I started with 5 minutes on the StepMill, then jumped on the treadmill. My plan was to do 8 minutes running/2 minutes walking. Well, after 16 minutes the net-shirt-wearing-major-stinky-man got on the treadmill next to me, Couldn’t Take The Stink! Almost gagging, I quickly moved away and went back to the StepMill for another 5 minutes. After my “I tried” cardio set, I headed to the weight room for arms, back, abs and lunges.

Thursday– Gym day! I did 39 minutes on the treadmill, walking and running. Then abs and planks. Dinner was finished at 5:45pm. Just got in from a 20 minute walk.

Friday– Gym Day!  Goal met for the week, I went four times.  Today Crystal and I powerwalked for 30 minutes.  Then we hit the weight room for some triceps, incline push-ups and abs!

Kath has already planned her workouts with travel and Christmas coming.  Good thinking!  So here’s what I’m thinking…

  • Monday (Christmas Eve)-I’ll be at the gym.  Fortunately they are offering child care in the morning.
  • Tuesday (Christmas Day)-I would love to go for a run, but just have to be home when my kids get up on Christmas morning.  Our friends, The Taylors, do an annual family bike ride. Perhaps we could get in a family walk/ride.
  • Wednesday-I love love love shopping the day after Christmas.  Dh is working that day.  Hummm, may be hard to get to the gym during child care hours, but would hate to miss two days in a row.
  • Thursday– Gym Day
  • Friday-Gym Day

All in all, three times at the gym is good for Christmas week, better than last year!

I must admit that I only made it to the gym 4 days this past week. By Friday I was just done.

My solution to stop eating by 7pm has really been good. The one day I know this rule really helped was Saturday. We went to Bethlehem and had a very early dinner. And not being planned so well, I had a late lunch so was not even hungry for dinner. (I listened to my body and didn’t force myself to eat). Then when we got home at 8pm, I was hungry…but not starving. So I had a glass of water, watched a little tv with dh, and then went to bed. Yes, I could have eaten, but I would have had too much, it would have just sat in me, and then I wouldn’t have been hungry for breakfast. So, this was a very good day.

I figure if I can just stick to these simple solutions during the holiday season, I will be doing well. So, for this week, I will continue to:

  • go to the gym 4 days
  • stop eating by 7pm
  • walk after dinner
  • not eat while reading the newspaper

Oh, and the good news, I measured my waist again…31 1/2 inches, down a half an inch.

Monday– Gym Day #1. Thank goodness Crystal was there, it’s so nice to have a friend! Did 10 minutes on the stairmill and then 35 minutes on the treadmill. Then we worked our backs in the weight room. I read the newspaper while eating lunch, but then put it away. Had an apple with the kids for a snack as we walked around our street.

We finished dinner at 6:15pm and then I went on a 20 minute walk. Every now and then I feel guilty for taking this time for myself. But I have to remind myself that I’m not being selfish for taking this time, but I’m working on being a better me, so that I can be a better wife and mom.

Tuesday– Gym Day #2. I started with 20 minutes on the elliptical, then 12 minutes on the stepmill, then 5 on the bike. After lunch I went outside and raked the leaves for an hour.

Wednesday– Gym Day #3. I did 35 minutes on the treadmill alternating between running for 8 minutes and walking for 2 minutes. After that I did abs on the ball, squats with the ball then abs on the bench.

Dinner was finished by 6:15pm, and then my dd and I shared one slice of the eggnog bread. After the dishes were clean I went on a 28 minutes walk.

Thursday– Gym Day #4. 35 minutes on the elliptical. I would have stayed longer, but my son really didn’t want to be in the childcare today. Dinner was finished at 5:45pm and then we went on a family walk looking at all the Christmas lights in our neighborhood.

I’m nearing a month already, wow, it’s gone fast. I keep thinking about how to add more, maybe this is the week to do it.

With the exception of going to the gym just 3 times a week for the past two weeks, I have been keeping to my other goals:

  • no eating after 7pm
  • walk after dinner
  • get to the gym 4 days a week for cardio and strength training
  • no reading the newspaper while eating

Since my gym goal is what is struggling, I took a closer look at my calendar and see no reason why I can’t get in five times this week. So, that’s my goal, get to the gym Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Sunday– Dinner was finished at 6:30pm and then dh, the kids, dog and I went on a walk to see the Christmas light in our neighborhood. It wasn’t much, but at least we were up and moving.

Monday– Gym Day #1! Crystal and I started on the elliptical and then moved to the StairMaster StairMill. After that we did some abs and decline push-ups on the ball and then abs and triceps on the bench. Dinner was finished by 6pm and then I went on a 20 minute walk.

Tuesday– Gym Day #2! Squeezed in 10 minutes on the elliptical and then 20 minutes run/walk on the treadmill before heading to a girlfriends house for home-made cinnamon rolls. I could have eaten three, but only had half of one.

Wednesday– Gym Day #3. Got to the gym. Tired. Headache. Hopped on the bike. No energy. Forgot about breakfast. Done after 20 minutes. Came home. Took Advil. Ate. Drank water. Cup of Coffee. Feel better. 12 minute run. Ahhhhhhhhh. Yoga later today.

Okay, it’s later. Yoga is not going to happen with the Sharks Game on. I stopped eating at 6:15pm and then went on a 20 minute walk.

Thursday– Gym Day #4. Did 35 minutes on the elliptical. My legs were sore (could it have been the peddeling the day before?). After that I did some lunges, one legged squats, and abs.

I was finished with dinner at 6:15pm. Exhausted! No walk tonight. Just worked on our Christmas cards, can’t believe they are not even ordered yet!

Saturday– I went to a baby shower brunch today. Skipped the sausages and scones. Enjoyed the eggs, fruit, and a muffin. It was a cheesecake “cake”, not really worth the calories, but how do you say, “no” at a shower? Dinner was finished by 6:15pm.

No gym or walk tonight. I’ve only been to the gym three times this past week. And it’s not really part of our weekend routine.

– No gym today, but I walked around the classroom for hour after hour. I figure I took a lot of steps today…perhaps I need a pedometer. DH went out to dinner, we finished by 7:15pm and then walked the mall for an hour.

– Gym day! I did 20 minutes on the StairMaster “StairMill”. You know the machine that is like walking up flights of stairs. I did 58 floors. Okay, I admit that I was going pretty slow and could have gone faster, but I wanted to get my bearings on the thing. After that I did 15 quick minutes on the elliptical and then went into the empty aerobic room and did some arms, abs and a bunch of lunges.

Tonight I’m hungry, and I want to eat something. But it’s almost 8pm. I didn’t have dinner, but that’s because I ate so much banana bread this afternoon, I wasn’t hungry for dinner, and then I had a haircut appointment at 6pm, so I missed my window.

-No gym this morning, but I did get the carpets clean. Such a feeling of accomplishment! This evening dinner was finished at 6:15pm and then I went for a 25 minute walk.

– Went to the gym this morning and got in 35 minutes on the elliptical. Then I did some ab work and squats on the ball. No walk this evening with dh in a meeting, but still got in 20 minutes of yoga.

Here’s a great tip, if you have On Demand, check out the exercise menu. There you can find lots of good workouts including the yoga and pilates I’ve been doing. It sure beats doing the same old exercise dvd’s I’ve had for years. Well, I made it through Thanksgiving weekend. Here’s a photo of my dear daughter and I on Thanksgiving. And I felt great!

It was so good to have my goals in mind. I kept to my challenge of not eating after 7pm and tried to walk when I could. The good news is that after sticking to my solutions for two weeks, I’ve lost 3/4 of an inch in my waist, so I’m down to 32 inches. And I can tell a difference in the way my clothes are fitting, yeah!

So, this week I am keeping to my goals of:

  • no eating after 7pm
  • walking after dinner when eating at home
  • go to the gym 4 days this week
  • no mindless eating while reading the newspaper

Today, Monday, I went to the gym. My “i-teach-p.e.-step-and-spinning” sister was in town and worked me in the weight room. I also did 35 minutes on the treadmill. This evening dinner was finished at 6:15pm and I went for a 25 minute walk afterwards.
