and thanks to Megans Cookin for The Smile Award!

My first Smile Award goes to Diannes Dishes because her food is inspiring, her photos are wonderful, and her garden is a thing of envy.

Canela y Comino. I love how Gretchen shares about the people and dishes of Peru while honoring her very American upbringing.

Colette’s Bakery. She bakes and dances, has a fun family, and is only 16 years old. I love peeking into her life.

Couch Cubicle. This girl is a riot! She always makes me laugh with her funny life stories.

A Southern Grace. She has great food, great photos, and is a great story teller.

And my final Yum Yum award goes to Megans Cookin. It’s no surprise that Megan’s food looks yummy and tastes yummy.

Red, White and Blue Pie

Why why why did I enter our church’s Pie Contest? I don’t do pies! I’m no good at the crust! The filling always runs!

And why did I encourage my girlfriends to enter? They are all master bakers. Quick thinking. Creative. Me, I get by.

Hoping to avoid disaster and total humiliation, I am brushing up on my pie baking skills this week. And thank goodness for Diannes Dishes. She posted a beautiful looking Red White and Blue Pie on July 4th that I just had to try…FABULOUS!!!

So Dianne, I just have to say Thank You!

This pie was good





And if anyone knows of a pie recipe that would be good for me to try, please pass it along. I need all the practice I can get before Saturday!

man’s mud pie

Today I celebrated my 36th birthday with lots of hugs, kisses, and homemade pictures from my kids. My hubby…he made me a mud pie…

Mud Pie

  • 1 pre-made chocolate pie crust
  • 1/2 gallon chocolate ice cream, softened
  • 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream, softened
  • 1 container fudge frosting (like what you would buy to cover a cake)
  • 1 bag of candy, smashed and divided (he used butterfinger)
  • chocolate syrup
  • whipped cream

Fill the pie crust with chocolate ice cream so it is level with the top of the crust and allow it to set in the freezer.

In a medium size bowl, (about the same size as pie crust), line with plastic wrap and mix entire 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream with 3/4 of the crushed candy. Place in the freezer until hard.

After the chocolate ice cream is hardened in the crust, spread the fudge frosting over the top and sprinkle with remaining candies. Put back in the freezer and allow it to harden.

Once both the chocolate ice cream crust and vanilla ice cream bowl has hardened, flip the vanilla ice cream mixture onto the top of the chocolate fudge candy sprinkled crust. Mold the edges together. Cover the entire pie with plastic wrap and allow to set in the freezer overnight.

Unwrap. Slice. Cover the top with whipped cream. Drizzle with chocolate syrup. Garnish with a cherry. And wish you wife a Happy Birthday.

I love blogging for all of the great new recipes and ideas people have to share…Gretchen’s Puffy Pancake, Kath’s Oatmeal Pancake, Charlotte’s Pea Pesto…and then I found Jenni’s Picky Palate…which lead me to Bakerella and her Cake Balls. My Oh My. This was one of those recipes that I had to make and I’m so glad I did!


I just followed Bakerella’s recipe and used a chocolate cake mix and vanilla frosting. Then I dipped the balls in either melted white chocolate or Wilton’s pink candy melts.


I passed these out to my wonderful I-don’t-know-what-I’d-do-without-you girlfriends.


Oh, and there was plenty more for my kids and hubby to enjoy!
